On April 16th, FBI Director James B. Comey stated “In their minds, the murderers and accomplices of Germany, and Poland and Hungary, and so many, many other places didn’t do something evil. They convinced themselves it was the right thing to do, the thing they had to do. That’s what people do. And that should truly frighten us.”

We, the Polish-American community disapprove of this characterization of Poland’s role in the Holocaust. However, we do not demand an apology. Instead, similarly to how Director Comey requires his FBI agents to visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, we would like to ask Director Comey to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp. As anyone that has visited can attest, Director Comey will learn what occurred behind the fences of that prison just by being there. There would be no better education than for Director Comey to visit the scene of the most significant event in human history to learn what really transpired.
